Agronomist

Helps plants grow and makes sure fields and gardens give a good harvest.

Career overview

What a day looks like

An agronomist walks through the fields and checks the condition of the plants and soil. They plan when to sow, water and harvest, and look for the reason when something isn't growing well.

Try it yourself this week

  • 25 minutes

Plant seeds and make a care plan

    1. Take seeds from food: for example, from a pepper, beans or an apple. Any container with soil or wet cotton wool will do.
    2. Write in your notebook what seeds need: water, light, warmth.
    3. Plant the seeds and write down the date. Set a reminder to check them in a few days.
    4. Make a two-week plan: when to water, what to measure, what to write down.

What you'll learn about yourself: Whether you have the patience to watch slow changes and keep notes.

What you can do next

  1. Next 3 months

    • Plant seeds and keep a diary

Do the seeds task and write down how fast they sprout.

  2. In six months

    • Watch the seasons

Once a week, take a photo of the same tree or flower bed and write down what has changed.

  3. In a year

    • Ask someone who does this job

Through people you know, and together with your parents, find out what the work looks like at different times of the year.
