TANYM data policy

Updated 4 October 2026. This policy describes the current pilot at tanym.byfresk.net.

Project operator

The project is operated by Fresk, the author's pseudonym. For service, data access and deletion enquiries: fresk@byfresk.net.

Users and hosting

People in different countries can access TANYM. The website, server routes and PostgreSQL database run on Railway in Singapore. Replies use the OpenAI API: messages and necessary context pass through TANYM's server to OpenAI.

Processing may take place outside your country. The app and database region does not determine the location of every OpenAI system, delivery network or provider service. Applicable requirements depend on the processing circumstances and law. This policy does not limit your statutory rights.

Conversation and browser storage

Registration, full name, phone number, address and school are not required. We ask your age to determine access and adapt the conversation. Avoid entering personal details about yourself or others: automatic masking catches some information but can miss it.

History, results, drafts and settings stay in your browser. After 30 days of inactivity, history is cleared when you next open the app; some settings, including language and age, remain. The tanym_lang cookie remembers your language for up to a year and is not used for advertising.

Model processing is needed for replies regardless of research participation. OpenAI API data is not used for model training by default. The provider may retain content for abuse prevention, usually up to 30 days with exceptions described in OpenAI's data controls. We do not promise zero provider retention.

Voice and attachments

Server transcription is currently disabled. Browser voice input, where offered, may process audio through the browser provider under its rules. Text is sufficient to use the conversation.

Images and text files are sent when you select them and press Send, without a separate attachment checkbox. Original files are not saved in browser history or the research database; they are processed for the current reply. Image metadata is stripped, but faces and writing can remain. The model's reply may contain file information and be saved in history. OpenAI's rules also apply to attachments.

Technical data

Railway and OpenAI may process IP addresses, request times, response codes and technical logs to deliver requests, protect the service and operate infrastructure. See Railway's privacy policy and OpenAI's rules above. Clearing browser history does not clear provider logs.

For cost controls, TANYM's database stores a daily total of AI requests without message text or participant identifiers. A separate application usage log contains time, model, purpose, token counts, estimated cost and sometimes a short hash of the conversation number. It is not a transcript. Server data access is restricted.

Research is currently disabled

Collection of ratings and completion stages, transcript storage for author review and separate research performance analytics are disabled. Conversations are not recorded in the research database, and backups of such research records are not created. The earlier proposed 183-day rating retention period does not apply to this pilot's current operation.

Before enabling research, we will describe its data, purposes, access, retention and deletion, including backups, and offer the necessary choices. Existing browser history will not automatically be added to a new study.

Deletion and requests

“Delete device data” clears TANYM data in this browser. It does not clear other devices, hosting logs or data retained by providers under their rules. There are currently no research responses on our server.

Email fresk@byfresk.net about access, correction, deletion or restriction of processing. Do not send identity documents or a full transcript unnecessarily. We will ask only for details needed to handle your request. Locating a particular record depends on what we actually hold. Additional rights may follow from applicable law.

Age, safety and updates

TANYM is for ages 14 and above. Under 18, you need permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the AI. An interface checkbox does not verify their identity. Do not enter parent contact details in the conversation.

TANYM is not an emergency service, psychologist or medical institution. The author does not monitor the chat live. AI can make mistakes and recommendations do not guarantee a suitable career. We do not sell conversations or use them for advertising profiles. The pilot has no advertising.

Material changes will be reflected in this policy and the interface notice, with renewed consent where required.
